What Does Your Soul Look Like? - The Future Gallery 17th July 2010

Innovate artist, Jamie Shaw, and acclaimed cellist and composer, Peter Gregson, join forces for one evening to create art inspired by music, and music inspired by art.

The Artist

Make it stand out

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

“Doing something live means you have to be spontaneous and immediate. I’m really interested in working as quickly as possible, with only one chance, and a hundred eyes on the canvas.

Music is the perfect expression of immediacy; it’s always moving and changing. Its energy heightens my awareness of the space around me, all the colours and all the movement. What captures me is the way music can induce a state of awareness that transcends language, explanation and reason, yet makes perfect sense.”

The Cellist

“I’m fascinated by the route to inspiration when creating new work - it doesn't just happen, but struggle to explain the process. It’s one part of the great enigmatic puzzle that is art. In this performance, we’ll both be creating work directly influenced by each other. No chicken, no egg. I’ve often thought that the painting of a picture must be really interesting to watch, but this the first time I’ll have seen it happen. I’ll be aiming to create a soundtrack that has it’s own performance element too.” "
